Management of Dr. Ibrahim Tahir Government School has appealed for strategic support and partnership from the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation to address pressing challenges affecting teaching and learning in the school.
During a recent engagement, representatives of the school visited the foundation to express appreciation for its ongoing interventions, noting that the institution has benefitted from several of its community-focused initiatives. The visit also provided an opportunity for the school to outline key challenges requiring urgent attention.
School authorities highlighted financial constraints faced by underprivileged students, particularly in the payment of external examination fees such as WAEC and NECO. They also raised concerns over inadequate infrastructure, including a shortage of classroom furniture, which has made learning conditions difficult for students.
In addition, the school identified the need for computers to support Computer-Based Testing (CBT) examinations, as well as improved power supply. While an inverter system is already in place, officials noted that solar panels and batteries are required to ensure stable electricity for academic activities.
The management further emphasized the importance of integrating employable skills into the school curriculum. Although some vocational initiatives have been introduced, they lack the necessary resources to be fully effective. Priority areas include training in welding, garment making, fashion design, and mobile phone repairs—skills seen as critical to reducing youth unemployment and the number of out-of-school children.
The school also underscored its commitment to supporting vulnerable groups, including orphans and children who have never attended school. According to the management, special programs and classes have been created to accommodate such learners, with the school shouldering the cost of fees, books, and other learning materials.
Appealing for intervention, the school called on the foundation—through its chairman—to support efforts aimed at improving educational delivery and expanding opportunities for disadvantaged students.
In response, the foundation’s team acknowledged the concerns raised and commended the school’s dedication to inclusive education. The team assured that all requests would be carefully reviewed with its management, with feedback to be communicated following due consideration.
The meeting ended with a shared commitment to explore possible areas of collaboration that could enhance access to quality education and improve learning outcomes for students in the community.
