The Wunti Al-Khair Foundation has commenced the distribution of over 6,000 bags of free fertilizer to small-scale farmers across Bauchi State, an initiative aimed at boosting agricultural productivity and enhancing food security in the region. The program, a part of the foundation’s broader economic empowerment and community development efforts, was flagged off recently in Bauchi.

According to Abubakar Mohammed ‘Yanmaza, the foundation’s monitoring and evaluation officer, this marks the second time the foundation is distributing fertilizer to farmers, with a particular focus on the underprivileged.

“This initiative aligns with our mission to support farmers, especially the underprivileged, in sustaining agricultural activities,” ‘Yanmaza stated at the flag-off ceremony. “Food security is a critical indicator of a nation’s economic well-being, and we are committed to playing our part.”

The initiative is designed to alleviate the financial burden on farmers who are struggling with the high cost of farming inputs. Isyaka Isma’il Wunti, another official from the foundation, emphasized that the selection process was transparent and targeted genuine farmers with limited resources.

“We have gone round the nooks and crannies of the state to identify underserved communities and those that truly deserve this gesture,” Isyaka said, adding that the distribution would cover all senatorial zones and rural areas of the state.

Beneficiaries of the program have expressed immense gratitude for the timely intervention. Emmanuel Samson, a farmer from Bauchi, described the support as a timely intervention that would greatly enhance his farming activities. Another recipient, Salisu Muhammad Maidawa, thanked the foundation’s founder, Dr. Bala Maijama’a Wunti, for the gesture. “This grant came at the right time when we were in dire need of fertilizer,” Maidawa said.

The foundation has warned that strict measures are in place to ensure the fertilizer reaches only eligible beneficiaries and will take action against anyone found diverting the product for unintended purposes.
