The Wunti Al-Khair Foundation (WAKF) participated as a major strategic partner at the Grand Finale of the Bauchi Women SDGs Hackathon held at the 1,000-Seat Capacity Khan Senior Lecture Theater (KSLT), Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.
The high-profile event brought together over 500 participants, including innovators, mentors, development stakeholders, students, and invited guests, to showcase technology-driven solutions addressing critical socio-economic challenges in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
As part of its commitment to inclusive education, innovation, and women empowerment, the Foundation supported the initiative through both financial sponsorship and technical mentorship for participating teams.
During the event, the Foundation’s Programs Officer for Education delivered a goodwill message on behalf of the Foundation, reaffirming WAKF’s dedication to fostering digital innovation, empowering young women, and supporting grassroots technology solutions capable of driving sustainable development within Bauchi State.
A major highlight of the programme was the live pitching competition where participating mentees presented innovative tech-based solutions designed to address pressing development challenges. Following a competitive evaluation process, three outstanding teams emerged as winners and received direct seed funding through the Foundation’s and other partner’s sponsorship support. The winning team received a cash prize of ₦1 million, while the second and third-place teams were awarded ₦500,000 each to support the growth and implementation of their innovations.
The Foundation noted that the event demonstrated the growing interest and potential of young women in digital innovation and entrepreneurship within Bauchi State. The participating teams were commended for presenting highly viable and impactful prototypes capable of contributing meaningfully to social and economic development.
