The Police Wives Association (POWA), in collaboration with partners, commemorated the International Widows Day with a support and empowerment programme for widows of deceased police officers in Bauchi State.
The event, which brought together approximately 200 widows from across the state, was organized to promote solidarity, emotional support, and economic empowerment for vulnerable widows while raising awareness on the challenges faced by widows within society.

The programme featured prayers and goodwill messages emphasizing hope, resilience, and community support for widows. Participants at the event included widows representing various Local Government Areas across Bauchi State, alongside executive members of POWA and partner organizations.
A major highlight of the event was a motivational lecture titled “From Grief to Growth: Building a Brighter Future for Widows” delivered by Mrs. Abigail Hardo. The session provided practical guidance on emotional healing, resilience, and personal development, encouraging widows to rebuild their lives with confidence and hope after loss.
As part of the intervention, several partner organizations provided humanitarian and livelihood support to beneficiaries. Wunti Al-Khair Foundation donated and distributed 50 bags of rice to widows, while Fidelity Bank provided 18 Point of Sale (POS) machines to selected widows as livelihood support tools.

In addition, the POWA Chairperson personally supported beneficiaries with ₦20,000 start-up capital for each POS machine recipient, while the North East Development Commission (NEDC) donated food items and household materials including rice, sugar, vegetable oil, and mats for distribution to widows.
Speaking during the programme, organizers emphasized the importance of sustained support for widows through both emotional and economic empowerment initiatives. The event also highlighted the effectiveness of collaborative partnerships in addressing the welfare needs of vulnerable groups within society.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks and appreciation to all supporting organizations and stakeholders for their contributions toward improving the welfare and wellbeing of widows in Bauchi State. Participants departed in an atmosphere of gratitude, encouragement, and renewed hope for the future.
