In its commitment to improve accessible healthcare, the Wunti Al-Khair Foundation, in partnership with Makkah Specialist Eye Hospital, has successfully conducted a large-scale free optical intervention that provided eye care services to 500 vulnerable residents across Bauchi State.

The intervention, organized as part of the Foundation’s 2026 health outreach, brought relief to hundreds of individuals suffering from various eye conditions, many of whom had limited access to quality eye care services. Beneficiaries were drawn from Bauchi Local Government Area as well as neighbouring communities in Dass, Toro, Alkaleri, and Ganjuwa.
The outreach delivered a comprehensive package of eye care services, including eye screenings, cataract consultations and surgeries, medication distribution, and the provision of corrective eyeglasses. A total of 100 individuals benefited from cataract consultations and surgical interventions, helping restore sight and improve their quality of life.

In addition to medical consultations and screenings, the Foundation distributed 64 pairs of medical eyeglasses to beneficiaries diagnosed with visual impairments. Medical teams also dispensed 330 units of essential medications, comprising 200 anti-allergy medications, 100 antibiotic units, and 30 anti-glaucoma eye drops. Complex cases requiring advanced care were referred to specialist facilities through established national and international medical networks.
Speaking on the significance of the intervention, Foundation’s Health Officer, Abduljabbar Isma’il noted that the overwhelming turnout highlighted the urgent need for accessible eye healthcare services within Bauchi State and surrounding communities. The success of the programme reinforces the importance of sustained investment in preventive and curative eye care, particularly for underserved populations.

The Officer also emphasized that the initiative reflects its unwavering commitment to human dignity, inclusion, and community well-being. By addressing preventable causes of visual impairment and blindness, the intervention has not only improved health outcomes but also restored hope and independence to hundreds of beneficiaries.
