LAGOS, NIGERIA – In a step to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world industry practice, the Bala Wunti Tech Fellows recently concluded a highly impactful and strategic tour of key tech hubs and events in Lagos, Nigeria's bustling economic capital.
The Fellows, a second cohort of budding technologists from Bauchi State Nigeria under the Bala Wunti Tech Fellowship, participated in a multi-stop tour designed to expose them to the latest innovations, career opportunities, and entrepreneurial ecosystems within the Nigerian tech landscape.
The tour's highlight was their attendance at GITEX Africa Expand, a premier technology exhibition held at the Landmark Centre in Victoria Island. The Fellows immersed themselves in the event, engaging with global tech leaders, exploring cutting-edge solutions in AI, fintech, and cybersecurity, and participating in sessions that discussed the future of technology on the continent.
Following the exposition, the cohort visited the Jobberman Nigeria Head Office. Here, they received a masterclass on navigating the modern job market. The session, led by Jobberman's career experts, covered crucial topics such as CV optimization, personal branding, leveraging digital platforms for job searches, and mastering the art of interviews in the competitive tech industry.
The final leg of the tour was a visit to the Lekki Recreation Centre, a hub for social and creative interaction. This segment was focused on networking and soft skills development, allowing the Fellows to unwind and connect with each other and with established tech professionals in a more relaxed setting, fostering relationships that could lead to future collaborations and mentorships.
The Program Director for the Bala Wunti Tech Fellowship, Mr. Mustapha Ango, emphasized the tour's objective. "Our mission is to create well-rounded tech professionals. While we provide top-notch technical training, exposure is irreplaceable. This Lagos tour was meticulously planned to show our Fellows the vast possibilities that exist, connect them directly with employers like Jobberman, and inspire them with the global trends showcased at GITEX. We are building confidence and ambition alongside skill."
One of the Fellows, Muhammad Dahiru from Dambam Local Government, shared his excitement: "Attending GITEX was mind-blowing. It made the concepts we learn in class tangible. Then, going to Jobberman demystified the process of getting a job. I no longer see myself as just a student, but as a professional-in-the-making with a clear path ahead. This experience has been invaluable."
The Bala Wunti Tech Fellowship is a philanthropic program focused on equipping youths from Northern Nigeria with in-demand digital skills to enhance their employability and foster regional economic development. This Lagos tour marks a pivotal hands-on component of their extensive training curriculum.
